WInnipeg, March 16, 2024 - In a move towards modernization and efficiency, the Manitoba government has teamed up with the Government of Canada to inject $1.5 million into the implementation of an electronic death registration system within the province's Vital Statistics Branch.

The allocated funding will cover the initial project costs for developing and executing the electronic death registration process, anticipated to be operational by spring 2025, the minister disclosed.

Under the new system, Event Registrars and other designated medical professionals will have the capability to electronically notify the Vital Statistics Branch of a death, replacing the traditional method of submitting paper forms via mail or in person.

The Vital Statistics Branch, responsible for registering all vital events in Manitoba and providing corresponding documents as proof, will oversee the implementation. Additionally, the branch maintains a comprehensive database of all vital event records dating back to 1882.
