Winnipeg, December 31, 2023 - An incident unfolded on December 29th at approximately 2 p.m. when Manitoba RCMP responded to reports of a semi-truck, carrying vehicles, engulfed in flames on Highway 1, just east of Carberry.
The driver of the semi-truck, traveling westbound on Highway 1, suddenly noticed flames erupting from the vehicle. Reacting swiftly, the driver safely brought the truck to a halt and evacuated the vehicle along with two passengers, ensuring their safety.
The fire rapidly consumed the semi-truck and the entire contents of its trailer, which carried a total of nine vehicles. The intense blaze left nothing but charred remnants in its wake, with all nine vehicles completely destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the driver and passengers.
The Manitoba RCMP and the Carberry Fire Department, responded promptly to the scene, working diligently to extinguish the fire and secure the area. Highway 1 temporarily experienced traffic disruptions as emergency responders managed the situation.
Preliminary investigations into the incident suggest that the fire may have been caused by a mechanical failure within the semi-truck. Further assessments and a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
