Winnipeg, April 30, 2024 - Over the past weekend of April 29th and 30th, the Winnipeg Police were kept busy with multiple incidents involving weapons, including knives and a hatchet.


On April 29th, around 6:00 p.m., officers responded to a distress call reporting a male on a transit bus wielding a knife and making threats to passengers. The situation was swiftly defused, with no injuries reported. Abraham Horace Saunders, 32, was subsequently charged with Possession of a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Release Order.


Later that same evening, at approximately 10:45 p.m., members of the Auxillary Force Cadet Unit encountered an individual attempting to conceal liquor near Hargrave/Ellice. Upon closer inspection, the person was found to be carrying a knife and displaying signs of intoxication. Wayne Wesley Duck, 24, was charged with Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order and Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition.


In the early hours of April 29th, around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a male wielding a hatchet and causing damage to a vehicle in the 200 block of Weitzel Street. The suspect, a 22-year-old male, was promptly apprehended without incident. Charges including Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment and Possession of a Weapon were brought against him.


Shortly after, at approximately 2:45 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Henry Ave regarding a female behaving erratically and brandishing a knife. She was also found in possession of methamphetamine. The 24-year-old female suspect was released on an Undertaking and faces charges of Possession of a Weapon, Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment, and Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine.


On April 30th, around 1:30 a.m., officers noticed a male violating curfew conditions outside an establishment in the 200 block of Maryland. Upon arrest, a knife was discovered on his person. The 14-year-old male remains in police custody and faces charges of Possession of a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
