Winnipeg, May 3, 2024 - The City of Winnipeg is set to introduce reduced speed limits on several key streets starting this week, as part of an initiative to enhance the safety and usability of its seasonal bike routes. The changes, which were approved by the City Council as part of the 2024 seasonal bike route program, aim to improve conditions for cyclists during the warmer months.

Starting today, new speed limit signs will be installed on four prominent Winnipeg streets. The affected areas and their new speed limits are as follows:

  • Lyndale Drive from Cromwell Street to Gauvin Street will see a speed reduction to 30 km/h.

  • Wellington Crescent from Academy Road to Maryland Street will also be limited to 30 km/h.

  • Churchill Drive between Hay Street and Jubilee Avenue will be set at 30 km/h.

  • Kilkenny Drive between Burgess Avenue and Kings Drive, including Kings Drive from Kilkenny Drive to Patricia Avenue, will have a speed limit of 40 km/h.

These changes are scheduled to be enforced 24/7 from the moment the signs are installed until late October, ensuring a consistent and safe environment for cyclists and pedestrians alike.

In addition to the speed limit adjustments, the city plans to implement turn requirements at select intersections along each route. These changes will follow the city’s spring clean-up operations and will be effective on weekends in May, June, September, and October. The turn restrictions will become a permanent fixture 24/7 throughout July and August.
